Kilim off the mark with game Brighton win

We're used to cheering home Roy Rocket at Brighton but Kilim gave us an extra big thrill at one of our favourite racecourses on Tuesday when winning her first race under a very good ride from Nicola Currie.

Kilim always tries but she can have a tendency to pull early in her races which, as a stayer, rather blows her chances of finishing off well. Nicola, who is apprenticed to Richard Hughes, carried out her instructions to the letter, switching off Kilim early on before moving across to the better ground on the stands' rail and running home very strongly to win by half a length.

As a very well-bred filly – by Dansili out of a full-sister to the St Leger winner Milan, bred by the Cumani family's Fittocks Stud – Kilim certainly deserves to be a winner and we're very pleased she's now off the mark.

It was great to be able to carry on our hot streak after a good second last week from Kryptos at Salisbury and another victory for Hope Is High at Yarmouth. It's a real credit to Jana, Ivona, Abbie and of course John that the horses are all running so well.
