A number of our Flat horses have left the stable for their winter breaks and it's the turn of the jumps team to keep the stable's name in lights through the winter, with the help of one or two on the all-weather.
Only one horse has been retired at the end of the season, and that's Hotfoot, who has left racing to become a riding horse. The other one of our friends who will not be racing for us next year is Rhythm Stick, who was sold to Saudi Arabian owners at the recent horses-in-training sale at Tattersalls. After winning his last four races, he was always going to sell well and indeed he did. We were really sorry to see him go but wish his new connections and the dear little horse himself lots of luck in the second stage of his career.
Kadouchski (pictured with his regular race jockey Will Kennedy) got the jumps season rolling for us with his debut run over fences at Huntingdon. He has now had two steeplechse outings, finishing second each time, and we're all hoping he can add a chase win to his Flat and hurdles successes, not forgetting, of course, his famous win in the Town Plate.
Alcalde has also had two runs this season, over hurdles at Cheltenham and Sandown, most recently finishing a close-up fourth in a competitive 2m4f handicap at the latter. He's a stronger and more relaxed horse this season and we're looking forward to him building on a promising start to his campaign.
Dr Darcey joined us in the summer from Richard Hannon's stable with the aim of running in juvenile hurdles. He's had one run so far and will definitely improve on that encouraging start.
Kadouchski's half-brother Douchkirk won a bumper in the spring and, now fully syndicated, he'll be making his hurdles debut in the coming weeks. Slightly closer at hand is the first National Hunt appearance of Asterisk, who is set to run in a mares' novices' hurdle at Lingfield on Tuesday. She has schooled well and we can't wait to see her run. Also waiting in the wings are a couple of potential bumper horses, Oscar Bernadotte and Ruby In The Dust, who are not likely to be seen out before next spring.
On the Flat, keep an eye out for our new arrival Karma Chameleon and Batgirl's half-sister Sail Past, who will be in action on the all-weather.
